'ecoHERO' Organic Recycling Frequently Asked Questions

    • What sort of waste can the 'ecoHERO' process?
    • The 'ecoHERO' is capable of treating all types of organic waste that has a moisture content up to 95%. Normally, we would set up the system based on your organic waste's moisture content or the type of food waste. So there is a solution for pretty much all kind of problems with organic waste.
    • How long does the 'ecoHERO' take to process organic waste?
    • The digestion time of organic material is based on its density, for example, wood is a denser material thus it takes longer to break down, typically it takes around 10 days in the 'ecoHERO'. However, food waste is easier to breakdown because it is a less dense material, so the 'ecoHERO' can digest it into a stable material in less than 4 days. Already digested material such as manure are processed in less than 2 days and, in some cases, it is turned into stable fertiliser in just one day. Hence the process time depends on the type of organic waste you have. When setting up the process, we would have considered all variations of your feed material and programmed the 'ecoHERO' to run on a timed batch mode.
    • What would happen if the feed material changes after you have programmed the 'ecoHERO'?
    • Typically it would not have any effect on the processing time. The 'ecoHERO' is capable of digesting a broad spectrum of organic materials, therefore, once the processing is started, the 'ecoHERO' will break down the material without any enzymes or additives within the set batch period.
    • Is there any material that the 'ecoHERO' cannot process?
    • The 'ecoHERO' breaks down many types of organic material. However, if the material has lot of oil, then it forms a coating around the material and this prevents aerobic bacteria from digesting it at an accelerated pace. Under this condition, the 'ecoHERO' will require some supportive additives. Other inorganic material such metal and plastics will come through the system without being digested. It will not damage the system, however it may jam the integrated shredder.
    • Does the 'ecoHERO' consume a lot of electricity?
    • No, the 'ecoHERO' does not use a lot of electrical energy. This is a misconception, as many compare our system to a typical dehydrator. The 'ecoHERO' truly is a different technology where it does not just dry the material, instead it digests the material. In fact, we ensure our system is efficient with specially designed reactors. The 'ecoHERO' is optimised to our client's requirements.
    • Is it an aerobic or an anaerobic system?
    • The 'ecoHERO' is an accelerated thermophilic aerobic digester system (ATAD). It is uniquely designed to handle organic material and to convert it into useful end products.
    • Is it batch processing or continuous processing?
    • The 'ecoHERO' is unusual because the fertiliser is produced in batch mode but you can feed the system at anytime up to the maximum daily volume. So, from a system's point of view, it is a batch processing and from an operator's point of view, it is continuous processing.
    • I already have separate organic waste collection, how would I benefit from your on-site solution?
    • The collection scheme is generally more suitable for small organic waste producers, e.g. less than one tonne per week or less than 10 x 240ltr bins. Typically more than one tonne a week will require more frequent collections, it’s also more likely there will be odour problems, leachate, vermin and general hygiene issues. These are the very issues you do not want to be dealing with, especially if you are involved in the food industry. Our system is compact, odourless, and you will not require additional storage for your food waste. Moreover, we guarantee to beat your collection cost. Therefore, you have many more reasons to consider our 'ecoHERO' for your business than a food waste collection scheme.
    • What maintenance and preventative maintenance procedures and schedules have you created?
    • All our units are supplied with a one year free parts and labour warranty. After the first year, we offer a four year maintenance contract for a small annual fee. Thus, our solution gives you peace of mind and the reliability of it working for up to five years without any major problems, too.
    • Do you collect fertiliser from anywhere in world?
    • Yes, we do. We will collect in quantity to reduce logistic costs and carbon footprints. Therefore, you will require a small storage space for accumulating a volume of fertiliser before arranging a collection with us. Usually we collect a minimum of 10 tonnes at any one time, however, we do make exceptions based on your business requirements and your location.
    • Does it smell?
    • The process is odourless. The system is fully enclosed and air is exhausted through a wet scrubber unit and/or bio-filter. The fertiliser will have some organic smell to it, however it is not overpowering or a bad odour. We normally keep them in an enclosed container.
    • Does the fertiliser need to be matured before use?
    • No, the fertiliser is matured when it is discharged from the 'ecoHERO'. There is no need for a maturation phase.
    • Is there any leachate?
    • No, there is no leachate or any other residues apart from useful fertiliser granules.
